In a dazzling night of beauty, talent, and grace, 23-year-old Sandra Lim from Selangor emerged as the winner of Miss Universe Malaysia 2024. Held at The Majestic Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, the much-anticipated pageant saw 16 finalists competing for the prestigious title. Lim, with her remarkable poise and outstanding performance throughout the competition, quickly became the crowd favorite, securing the coveted crown.
The evening kicked off with an electrifying performance by popular girl group DOLLA, who energized the crowd with their hit song “BAD.” Mandopop singer Firdhaus Farmizi also added to the event’s excitement with a soulful performance, setting the stage for a night to remember.
Sandra Lim, who stands at 5’8”, is no stranger to the world of beauty pageants. She first gained attention in 2022, when she won the title of Miss Global Malaysia and went on to secure the first runner-up spot at the international Miss Global competition that same year. Her wealth of experience in the pageant world, combined with her versatility as an actress, model, and host, has made her a standout figure.
Beyond her beauty, Sandra has proven herself to be both academically and personally accomplished. A graduate in Mass Communication from City University, she was also the recipient of an academic excellence award during her time at university. Her hobbies, which include wushu and kickboxing, further showcase her dynamic personality, making her a well-rounded winner.
At the Miss Universe Malaysia 2024 event, Sandra also clinched the Miss Best Dressed and Miss Grace of J & Kel awards, solidifying her dominance in the competition.
One of the highlights of the pageant was the final question-and-answer segment, where Sandra Lim was asked, “In your opinion, how can we address gender-based violence effectively?” Her response was a thoughtful and compassionate call for unity and protection of women.
“I think that gender-based violence should not be taken lightly,” Sandra said. “It’s something that could be happening right beside us and go unnoticed. And I think that it’s really important for us to emphasize protecting our women. Because I feel like our women contribute to our society very significantly. They lead with compassion, and I think that it is very important. In our current society, we have seen so much violence and war, and I think that violence is never the answer. It’s really important for us to come together and create a safe environment for our women.”
While Sandra Lim secured the crown, the competition saw strong performances from the other finalists as well. Gianna Tan, who was named first runner-up, also took home the titles of Miss Online Personality and Miss Body Beautiful, showcasing her elegance and charm. Temara Inigo, who won the second runner-up position, captivated the audience with her striking presence.
Other awards were presented during the night, including Miss Best Catwalk, which went to Shweta, and Miss Congeniality, which was awarded to Isabelle Choong. Each contestant displayed grace and beauty in the various competition rounds, including the evening gown presentation and the crucial final question-and-answer session.
Sandra Lim’s triumph at Miss Universe Malaysia 2024 not only marks a personal achievement but also opens a new chapter in her career, as she will represent Malaysia at the Miss Universe 2024 competition in Mexico. It has been 53 years since Malaysia last placed in the Miss Universe semifinals, with the nation’s lone success dating back to 1970, when Josephine Lena Wong reached the Top 15.
With Sandra’s experience, grace, and determination, hopes are high that she can break this long-standing streak and bring glory to Malaysia. As she prepares for her journey to the international stage, the nation will rally behind her, hopeful that Sandra Lim will finally bring home the first-ever Miss Universe crown for Malaysia.
