Timor-Leste President and Prime Minister Discuss Government’s Strategic Plan For 2025

(AseanAll)  — On January 9, 2025, President of the Republic of Timor-Leste J. Ramos-Horta held his first weekly audience of the year with Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, focusing on the government’s strategic priorities for 2025. 

During the meeting, Prime Minister Xanana briefed the President on recent Council of Ministers decisions regarding the preparation of crucial Ministerial Diplomas and Decree Laws.

The Prime Minister highlighted the legislative priorities, particularly those related to Timor-Leste’s WTO membership and ASEAN integration requirements. He emphasized the government’s commitment to aligning national legislation with international standards and obligations.

Xanana also informed President Ramos-Horta about his anticipated extensive international travel schedule during 2025, which is necessary to implement the country’s strategic development plans. Additionally, he outlined the government’s initiative to require comprehensive reports from all ministries and institutions to address any detected irregularities, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to transparency and good governance.
