Philippine Ambassador Extols Filipino-Khmer Ties at Royal Audience with Queen Mother of Cambodia

 (AseanAll)  — Philippine Ambassador Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo was received in  a Royal Audience by the Queen Mother of Cambodia  Norodom Monineath Sihanouk of the Kingdom of Cambodia on 12 December 2024 at the Royal Palace, according to the news released by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs on January 3,2025.

After conveying the greetings of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and First Lady Marie Louise Araneta Marcos, Ambassador Mayo also extended felicitations on behalf of the 7,000 Filipinos who continue to contribute to the socio-economic development of their Khmer hosts.  The Ambassador apprised Her Majesty of the continuing support of the Filipino community for advocacies and charities close to the Queen Mother’s heart, including the Cambodian Red Cross.

The Queen Mother shared fond memories of the Philippines and personal relations with Filipinos, including the former First Lady Imelda Marcos. Her Majesty also recalled the visit to the Philippines of the late King Father, His Majesty Norodom Sihanouk in 1956.   

Highlighting the Philippines’ strong advocacy on women’s issues, the Philippine Ambassador assured the Queen Mother of her support for initiatives that empower women, including livelihood and capacity building programs for local communities.

Her Excellency and Her Majesty exchanged gifts reflecting the outstanding artistry and craftsmanship of the Filipino and Khmer peoples, including a handcrafted T’boli bell from southern Philippines and compilation of the late King Father’s musical compositions.  

The royal audience concluded with the Ambassador’s best wishes for the good health and happiness of Their Majesties, King Norodom Sihamoni and the Queen Mother.
