Myanmar Designates Chinese New Year as Public Holiday

Nay Pyi Taw, July 8 (AseanAll)  — On 8 July, 2024, Myanmar government announced that the Chinese New Year is officially designated as a Myanmar national public holiday,according to the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar.

Chinese Embassy said that people from across Myanmar society attach great importance to the Chinese New Year. 

In both 2023 and 2024, Myanmar leader Min Aung Hlaing attended the Chinese New Year celebrations in Yangon jointly organised by the overseas Chinese community in Myanmar and the Embassy of China in Myanmar. During the events, Mr. Chen Hai, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, discussed with Min Aung Hlaing on the designation of Chinese New Year as a Myanmar public holiday.
