China provides emergency humanitarian assistance of 30 million yuan to Syria

Beijing,February 9, 2023(AseanAll)— Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said on February 8 that China decided to provide emergency humanitarian assistance of 30 million yuan to Syria.

At the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China on the same day, a reporter asked about China's assistance to Türkiye of 40 million yuan and sent search and rescue teams. Will China provide the same assistance to Syria?

Mao Ning said that China is also closely following the situation in Syria in the wake of the earthquake. To convey Chinese government and people’s sympathy and support for the Syrian government and people, China has decided to provide 30 million-yuan emergency humanitarian aid to Syria, including two million US dollars of cash assistance and urgently-needed relief supplies.

"At the same time, we are also speeding up the delivery of ongoing food aid programs," said Mao .

Maoning said that the relevant competent authorities of China will also cooperate with the Syrian side to ensure the implementation of the above assistance as soon as possible, and help the Syrian side in earthquake relief and disaster relief.

In addition, the spokesman pointed out that to this day, the US troops continue to occupy Syria’s principal oil-producing regions. They have plundered more than 80% of Syria’s oil production and smuggled and burned Syria’s grain stock. "All this has made Syria’s humanitarian crisis even worse."

"In the wake of the catastrophe, the US should put aside geopolitical obsessions and immediately lift the unilateral sanctions on Syria, to unlock the doors for humanitarian aid to Syria," she said.
