Singapore Customs marks International Customs Day with award presentation ceremony

Singapore,January 27, 2023(AseanAll)Singapore Customs joined other customs administrations worldwide in observing International Customs Day (ICD), which falls on 26 January annually, with a staff award presentation ceremony held at the NTUC Auditorium on the afternoon of January 26 ,2023.  



Director-General of Customs Singapore, Mr Tan Hung Hooi, presented nine Singapore Customs officers with World Customs Organization (WCO) Certificate of Merit for demonstrating strong commitment in their work towards this year’s ICD theme of “Nurturing the next generation: promoting a culture of knowledge-sharing and professional pride in Customs.” 

In addition, more than 300  customs officers were presented with Singapore Customs Good Service Medals and Long Service Medals (See Annex A) for service periods ranging from five to 40 years. Nineteen project teams and four individuals were also recognised for various Staff Awards in areas such as Service Excellence, Trade, Pro-Enterprise, Enforcement and Innovation. 

In his speech, Director-General Tan congratulated and commended all award recipients for their dedication and professionalism in pressing on to fulfil the mission of Customs, even though the work of Customs is not always visible to the public eye. 

“In the year ahead, we will continue with our efforts to build a Future-Ready Workforce, and to push ahead with capability-building, especially in data and digitalisation. As we transform our work and upskill our officers, it is also important that our officers find purpose in their work and we continue to deliver on our mission,” Mr Tan said.
