Japan's Cabinet approves additional sanctions on Russia

Tokyo,January 27, 2023(AseanAll)Japan's government has decided on additional sanctions on Russia in response to the ongoing invasion of Ukraine.



According to NHK, the measures were approved at a Cabinet meeting on Friday(January 27).  Japan and the other Group of Seven nations aim to put further pressure on Moscow.


The new sanctions include freezing the assets of 36 people, including Russian government officials and individuals with ties to pro-Russian groups in eastern and southern Ukraine, as well as those of three entities.


Exports will be banned to 49 more entities, including Russian aircraft repair factories. More items will be added to the list of banned exports to Russia.


Kihara Seiji , Japan’s Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary told reporters after the Cabinet meeting that the G7 nations and the wider global community need to unite and take firm action to protect peace and order.


He said Japan will continue to work with the international community to push ahead with sanctions against Russia and support for Ukraine.
