Singapore government appoints the next Singapore High Commissioner to Brunei

Singapore, July 26 (AseanAll)  — Singaporean Government has appointed Mr Laurence Bay Siow Hon as the next Singapore High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam.

On July 25,  the Letter of Credence Ceremony was held, and President of Singapore Halimah Yacob extended credit to Mr Laurence Bay Siow Hon,according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore.


Letter of credence are the official documents that accredit a diplomat as an ambassador or high commissioner to another country.


Mr Bay was Singapore’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany from 2016 to 2023. Prior to this, he was Director-General of the Consular Directorate from 2014 to 2016 and Director-General of the South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa Directorate from 2012 to 2014.

 

Since joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996, Mr Bay served as First Secretary (Political) in the Singapore Embassy in Jakarta from 1999 to 2003, and Deputy Chief of Mission in the Singapore Embassy in Tokyo from 2008 to 2012. He has also done substantial work related to Southeast Asia in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

Mr Bay graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History from the National University of Singapore in 1996.  He obtained a Master in International Policy Studies from Stanford University, United States of America in 2004.

 

Mr Bay was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) in 2007, Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2018, and the Long Service Medal in 2019. He is married to Madam Elizabeth Kwan and they have two sons.
