Sihanoukville,July 8 (AseanAll) —The freshly constructed and refurbished Tourist Port of the Preah Sihanouk Province, Cambodia was officially inaugurated on 6 July 2023 in the esteemed presences of Cambodian tourism minister Thong Khon, and Sihanoukville governor Kouch Chamroeun.
Thong Khon presided over the official inauguration of the Sihanoukville Tourism port capable of docking 20 large and small cruise ships at the same time.
According to Neak Oknha Tea Vichet, CEO of GTVC Import Export Co., Ltd. that invested in the port, the newly inaugurated tourist port sits atop an area of 22,000 square meter. It will be able to host 20 small and large tourist boats simultaneously, providing two-way services of maritime route between the mainland Sihanouk province and each of the island in Cambodia.
Sihanoukville’s new flagship port receives accolades from Preah Sihanouk provincial governor Kouch Chamroeun who stated in his remarks that the new port will be another significant asset of the province, boosting confidence of investors and trust on the Royal Government’s visionary leadership. He said that the port could become an international one that can mutually facilitate tourists back and forth from Thailand, Vietnam and other countries.
Thong Khon spoke highly of the new port as a vital tourism infrastructure safe and convenient for tourist cruise ships as well as tourists.
It will bring more national and international tourists to the province's cultural and natural attractions as well as create more job and income generation opportunities for the locals.
Tourism is a priority sector in promoting macroeconomic growth and social development in Cambodia and is expected to take up the biggest part in the country's gross domestic product in a near future.
