Brunei and Japan convenes the 1st Defence Policy Dialogue

Bandar Seri Begawan , June 29 (AseanAll)  — The Ministry of Defence, Brunei Darussalam and Ministry of Defense, Japan conducted the 1st Defence Policy Dialogue (DPD) at the International Convention Centre, Berakas, Brunei on June 27,2023.

The meeting was co-chaired by Yang Mulia Haji Adi Ihram bin Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Strategy), Ministry of Defence of Brunei and Oka Masami, Vice-Minister of Defense for International Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Japan.

The DPD further cemented Brunei Darussalam and Japan's bilateral defence relations, with the progress of bilateral and multilateral defence cooperation, as well as explored opportunities for future defence interactions were discussed. Both sides also exchanged views on the regional security dynamics.

The DPD between Brunei Darussalam and Japan was established through the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on Defence Cooperation and Exchanges between the Ministry of Defence, Brunei Darussalam and the Ministry of Defense, Japan, signed on 3 February 2023.

The MoC serves as a framework for fostering closer defence relations and cooperation between the defence establishments of both countries, such as through exchange of visits, courses, training, military exercises, and other cooperation in areas of mutual interests.
