Lao Assembly President Meets Vietnam’s Top Leader, Reaffirming "Great Friendship" and Infrastructure Links

Hanoi, November 6 (AseanAll)  — On the afternoon of 4 November 2026, Lao National Assembly President Sonexay Siphandone met with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of Viet Nam To Lam in Hanoi, reaffirming the long-standing strategic partnership between the two nations and pledging to accelerate key cross-border infrastructure projects.

The high-level meeting focused on deepening economic cooperation and pushing forward critical connectivity initiatives, including Vung Ang Port, the Vientiane–Hanoi Expressway, and the Laos–Vietnam Railway. The leaders also outlined joint priorities in energy, mining, and agriculture aimed at bolstering the Lao economy.

During the talks, Sonexay briefed To Lam on Laos' progress under its 12th National Party Congress resolution and the 2026–2030 Socio-Economic Development Plan, while expressing gratitude for Vietnam's ongoing bilateral support.

To Lam warmly congratulated Sonexay Siphandone on his recent election as President of the Lao National Assembly at the 2nd Ordinary Session of the 10th National Assembly of Laos. He highly appreciated Viet Nam being chosen as the first destination of Sonexay Siphandone ’s overseas official trip after taking office, which vividly demonstrates the great friendship, special solidarity, all-round cooperation and strategic partnership linking the two countries.

Both leaders agreed to begin preparations for major joint celebrations in 2027 to mark the Laos–Vietnam Friendship Solidarity Year, which will commemorate 65 years of diplomatic relations and 50 years since the signing of their Treaty of Friendship.
