(AseanAll)  — Indonesian Minister for Foreign Affairs Arrmanatha Nasir welcomed Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta for discussions on bilateral relations and opportunities to deepen cooperation on October 22, 2026. This was the first in-person meeting between the two ministers since Minister Arrmanatha assumed office on 1 October 2026.

Arrmanatha welcomed Minister Wong's visit and underscored the importance of maintaining close relations between Indonesia and Australia as neighbours, built on mutual trust and respect. He emphasised that geographical proximity and shared interests provide a strong foundation for strengthening a mutually beneficial partnership and contributing to regional stability and prosperity.

Discussions covered economic cooperation and investment, food and energy security, and other areas of mutual interest.

The ministers also discussed the implementation of the Australia–Indonesia Treaty on Common Security (Jakarta Treaty), including ways to make greater use of existing bilateral consultation mechanisms to strengthen strategic dialogue.
