(AseanAll)  — On September 22, 2026 (New York City local time), at the United Nations Headquarters, Thai Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul attended the opening of the General Debate of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81). 

The overarching theme of this year’s session is “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All”. Leaders and representatives from member countries exchanged perspectives on global challenges and ways to strengthen international cooperation.

The Thai Prime Minister intended to leverage Thailand’s participation in the UNGA81 as an opportunity to reaffirm the country’s commitment to promoting UN-centric multilateral system, while advancing cooperation to drive forward UN’s mission under its 3 pillars: peace and security, human rights, and sustainable development.

The 81st Session of the General Assembly was chaired by Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, with participation from prominent leaders and dignitaries including UN Secretary‑General António Guterres; U.S. President Donald J. Trump; Prime Minister Tarique Rahman of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh; Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay of the Kingdom of Bhutan; Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of the Republic of Armenia; President Ursula von der Leyen of the European Commission; and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands.

tHAI Prime Minister’s participation in UNGA81 is of special importance as it coincides with the 80th anniversary of Thailand’s membership in the United Nations. It is also an occasion for Thailand, as a middle‑power nation, to play an active role on the international stage in advancing the world’s key agenda.
