(AseanAll)  — On May 19,2026,Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Retired) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd. Yussof, Brunei Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II, received an introductory call from Yip Wei Kiat, High Commissioner of the Republic of Singapore to Brunei Darussalam.

During the call, both sides reaffirmed the special and longstanding defence ties between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Singapore, and commended the significant milestones achieved by both defence organisations in the last 50 years. Both sides looked forward to the events planned throughout 2026 to commemorate the golden jubilee of defence relations.

Also present during the call were Yang Mulia Ajman bin Haji Meludin, Permanent Secretary (Civil Service Governance) at the Prime Minister’s Office; Yang Mulia Pengiran Hajah Siti Nirmala binti Pengiran Haji Mohammad, Permanent Secretary (Wawasan) at the Prime Minister’s Office; Yang Mulia Hajah Farida binti Dato Paduka Haji Talib, Permanent Secretary (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office; and Yang Mulia Brigadier General (Retired) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Alirupendi bin Haji Perudin, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence of Brunei.

Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam received the Letter of Credence from Yip Wei Kiat on 12 May 2026.
