President of Timor-Leste Convenes Exceptional Council of State Meeting to Safeguard National Economy

Dili, May 15 (AseanAll)  — In a profound display of national unity, the President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, J. Ramos-Horta convened an exceptional meeting of the Council of State at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace on May 15, 2026. This extraordinary gathering successfully brought together the nation’s historical leaders to sit together and engage in a crucial, high-level dialogue centered entirely on the supreme interests of Timor-Leste.

According to Presidency Advisor and Council of State Focal Point, João Aparicio, the President deemed it highly important to summon all members, alongside the Governor of the Central Bank, to evaluate the current national situation.

Emphasizing the meeting’s primary objective, João Aparicio stated the leaders gathered to “conduct a deep analysis regarding the global economic aspects and their impact on our domestic economy, and determine what Timor-Leste must do at the internal level to be able to face these situations for the benefit of the people and the nation.” He noted that while specific deliberations remain strictly confidential under the official duty of secrecy, this strategic economic focus was paramount.

This proactive initiative underlines the Head of State’s commitment to ensuring the country’s resilience amidst global uncertainties. The primary objective of this exceptional gathering was to carefully evaluate the internal measures and preparations Timor-Leste must undertake to successfully navigate these economic challenges, ultimately securing stability and ongoing benefits for the Timorese people and the nation.
