Dili,April 30 (AseanAll)  — Timorese President and Nobel Peace Laureate J. Ramos-Horta on April 30, 2026 bestowed the Medal of the Order of Timor-Leste upon renowned British explorer, industrialist, and adventurer, Sir David Hempleman-Adams. The ceremony took place at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace.

Sir David Hempleman-Adams is widely recognized as the first person to reach the Geographic South Pole as well as both the North and South Magnetic Poles. Knighted for his services to exploration, he has led numerous high-profile expeditions across polar and high-altitude environments, demonstrating exceptional endurance, leadership, and resilience. Through his work, he promotes youth development, environmental awareness, and the values of perseverance and disciplined risk management. His experience offers a compelling platform to inspire students and communities on leadership, resilience, and global environmental responsibility.

The award was conferred under Decree of the President of the Republic No. 47/2026, in recognition of Sir David’s efforts and dedication, which have benefited numerous Timorese citizens over the years.

“Sir David, your life has been defined by courage, perseverance, and an unyielding spirit of exploration. You remind us that there are no limits to what we can achieve. Your visit to our schools’ plants seeds of ambition in our youth, teaching them that greatness comes not from privilege, but from perseverance. On behalf of the people of Timor-Leste, we honour you—not only for what you have achieved, but for what you continue to give. May your example inspire our young nation to aim higher, to endure longer, and to believe that no horizon is beyond reach,” stated President J. Ramos-Horta.

The Order of Timor-Leste is the nation’s highest honor, reserved for individuals who have rendered exceptional and meritorious service to the country.
