Thai Foreign Minister meets with Resident Representative of the ICRC in Myanmar

 (AseanAll)  — On 26 March 2026, Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a discussion with Arnaud Edward de Baecque, Resident Representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Myanmar, on the occasion of the latter’s visit to Thailand. Also in attendance was Jürg Montani, Head of the ICRC Regional Delegation in Bangkok.

Both sides exchanged views on the situation in Myanmar. The Foreign Minister reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to supporting the peace process in Myanmar and enhancing cooperation with Myanmar to address transnational security challenges along the border, including online scams, drug trafficking, as well as air and river pollution. 

Sihasak also underlined that Thailand attaches importance to providing humanitarian assistance to those in need in Myanmar. 

The ICRC side briefed the meeting on the current humanitarian situation in Myanmar and commended Thailand’s leading role in this regard.

Both sides also discussed the Thailand - Cambodia border situation, including the role of ICRC in the context of international humanitarian law.
