Thai PM calls on Thai people to mourn for the passing of Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother

Bangkok, October 25 (AseanAll)  — On October 25, 2025, Thai Government Spokesperson Siripong Angkasakulkiat stated that Thai Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul called on all the Thais to mourn for the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother.

In order to avoid confusion, the Thai Government has not made any order, but simply asked for cooperation, for the private and people’s sectors to cancel festivities or entertainments. However, they are requested to exercise discretion in organizing any joyful event appropriately and as necessary. These festivities may be adapted in line with the Thai culture and tradition. According to the Government Spokesperson, abrupt cancellation of events may result in financial burdens on the public and the private sector and impact the economy.

The Government will proceed with the organization of the royal funeral with the highest honor. All the Thai people are asked to collectively mourn for and humbly dedicate their merits to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother. They are also urged to exercise the power of love, unity, and loyalty to offer moral support to His Majesty the King and members of the royal family during this time of sorrow.

Various activities, i.e., ordination, weddings, and traditional events, are not prohibited, but to be held discreetly and appropriately. The Thai Prime Minister was informed by Minister of Tourism and Sports that entrepreneurs are cooperating and ready to organize events in a manner suitable for the situation. Further announcements will be made regarding the period of mourning and other related details.

With regard to foreign affairs missions, the Thai Prime Minister will manage his participation in the ASEAN and APEC Summits and related meetings, where important issues, such as taxes, trade, and agreements, will be discussed. Thailand has also been requested for meetings with a number of national leaders to discuss bilateral cooperation at the two events. Thai Deputy Prime Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn also stands ready to perform duties on his behalf, if necessary.
