Bangkok, July 13 (AseanAll) — Myanmar Foreign Minister, U Tin Maung Swe attended the Informal ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Bangkok, Thailand, on 12 July 2026, according ro the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar.

At the meeting, U Tin Maung Swe briefed on the developments in Myanmar, including the newly elected Government’s efforts to promote national stability, the rule of law, peace, and national development as well as efforts to combat transnational crimes including online scams, narcotic drugs and human trafficking.

Furthermore, U Tin Maung Swe explained the effective and non-discriminatory delivery of humanitarian assistance provided by ASEAN through AHA Centre as well as the way forward.
Then, the Foreign Ministers of ASEAN Member States exchanged views on ASEAN's engagement with Myanmar.

In response, U Tin Maung Swe stated that, on 9 July 2026, the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw adopted an urgent motion to urge the Union Government to review on the ASEAN Five-Point Statement as it is inconsistent with ASEAN's fundamental principles and does not reflect the current political realities in Myanmar.
U Tin Maung Swe stressed that, being the democratically elected government, it has the responsibility to implement the decision of the Parliament.
He added that it is important to have a thorough understanding of Myanmar's complex political realities and taking a constructive approach which is consistent with the realities on the ground.
U Tin Maung Swe affirmed that Myanmar looks forward to restoring its full and equal participation in ASEAN and will continue to cooperate with ASEAN to the possible extent.
