Microsoft to invest additional USD 1 billion in Thailand over next two years

Bangkok, March 31 (AseanAll)  — On March 31, 2026, at Thai Government House, Mr. Brad Smith, Microsoft's vice chair and president, and his delegation, paid a courtesy call on Thai Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul on occasion of his visit to Thailand.

The Prime Minister commended Microsoft for its role in driving forward innovations and the contribution to Thailand’s digital development. He affirmed the Thai Government’s commitment to strengthening cooperation on and supporting Microsoft’s operations in the country in a bid to enhance Thailand’s digital competitiveness and improve efficiency of public services.

Mr. Brad Smith disclosed Microsoft’s plan to invest an additional USD 1 billion in Thailand over the next two years, focusing on cloud and AI infrastructure. The company will also strengthen collaboration with the Thai private sector partners on personnel development. These commitments underscore Microsoft’s confidence in Thailand’s future, its people, and the Thai Government.

Both parties also discussed issues of mutual interest:

On investment, the Prime Minister was pleased with Microsoft’s plan to invest in cloud and AI infrastructure in Thailand which aligns with the country’s economic and digital development strategy. The Thai Government stands ready to support investment in Data Center infrastructure and encourages Microsoft to establish Thailand as a regional hub, considering the country’s strategic location at the heart of the region. Mr. Brad Smith reaffirmed Microsoft’s commitment to supporting the Government’s economic and digital policies and to building a long‑term partnership with Thailand for sustainable mutual benefit.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the Government’s endorsement for the collaboration between Microsoft and the Thai private sector and Government agencies to drive Thailand toward becoming a digital hub. He expressed confidence that such cooperation will be a key driver in pushing forward the country as an AI‑First Nation in the region.

Toward the end of the meeting, the Prime Minister reiterated Thailand’s priority placed on human resource development, particularly in education and workforce skill development. He thanked Microsoft for its commitment to promoting digital and AI skills among the Thai people, especially through capacity building of teachers and workforces, and cultivation of a new generation of professionals in data centers and technology. Mr. Brad Smith added that AI adoption has been growing fast worldwide, especially in Asia and Southeast Asia. Microsoft is ready to support the Thai Government through its ongoing initiatives, i.e., training programs for teachers, non‑profit organizations, and Government officials, to enhance their access to AI skills.
