The theme "Nusantara Baru Indonesia Maju" (New Nusantara, Advanced Indonesia) was chosen to illustrate the transition that will occur in 2024, namely the move of the National Capital and the change of the nation's leadership.
Head of the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono announced the news at Wisma Negara, Presidential Palace Complex, in Jakarta, on June 24, 2024. "This year's logo is the work of Inggrid Wenas," Heru said.
Each of the 2024 Indonesian Independence Day logo is designed from three shapes that form the numbers 7 and 9 that are colored in red. Three red lines form the number 7, while three other red lines form the number 9. The tip of the number 7 resembles the beak of Garuda, the state symbol that contains one of the pillars of nationalism, Pancasila. It also symbolizes our country's strength and power.
Meanwhile, another shape in the number 7 symbol, which resembles an arrow pointing to the upper right direction, represents Indonesia's desire to increase its investment and exports to fulfill the country's mission to drive the economy.
Then, the arches from all different directions are connected, symbolizing the principle of sustainable development. Whereas the branches and leaves shapes that forms the number 9 symbol represent the country's development principles that are based on a green economy, synergize with nature, and always pay close attention to the nation's cultural roots and identity.
The legs of the two numbers are made of the same shape, forming two joined hands to symbolize the unity of the Indonesian people, regardless of their differences.
Two waves that face in the same direction at the top and at the bottom represent Indonesia's decentralization and equitable development to achieve equality. While the graphic element is inspired by the flow of the river as the source of life.
In general, rivers have branches that will eventually lead to the same estuary. It implies the different groups, tribes, and communities that are uniting their forces to move towards a new archipelago, an advanced Indonesia.
The twisting and long overall shape resembles the longest river in Indonesia, namely the Kapuas River in Kalimantan, which implies the hope towards a dynamic Indonesia.
The graphic element which consists of four lines symbolizes the country's four dynamic pillars, namely Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, NKRI, and Unity in Diversity (Bhineka Tunggal Ika). This graphic element expresses the hope that Indonesia will continue to evolve while still adhering to the noble values of the nation.
At the same time, Secretary of the Ministry of State Secretariat, Setya Utama, revealed that the government, through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, will conduct another socialization to intensify the promotion of RI's 79th Independence Day logo and theme.
"For this reason, we would also like to ask journalists to help us in disseminating this year's logo and theme to a wider audience. The launch of this year's logo and theme hopefully will create business opportunities for the community through the sale of various Indonesian Independence Day attributes. In essence, it must be beneficial for many people," he said.
Deputy for Digital Economy and Creative Economy of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia, Neil El Himam, added that the government is working together with one of the creative economy sector players, namely the Indonesian Graphic Designers Association (ADGI), to develop and design the logo.
"We would also like to express our gratitude and appreciation to all parties involved. This will surely bring a broad economic impact as the logo can be immediately utilized, for example by t-shirt, sticker, and other merchants ahead of Indonesia's 79th Independence Day," he added.
Meanwhile, Inggrid Wenas admitted that she is proud and honored to be involved in the creation and design of the logo. "It all started with a dream to give our best to give back to the nation and state with the skills we have," she said.
She hopes that more creative industries and individuals engaged in the creative industry sector can be given more opportunities to show their abilities and contribute to the country.
