Beijing, January 12 (AseanAll) — On 12 January 2026, the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC) and the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam in China jointly held the “ASEAN (Viet Nam) Movie Night” event at the ACC in Beijing, China.

Shi Zhongjun, Secretary General of the ACC, Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh of Viet Nam to China, Ambassador Dato’ Norman Muhamad of Malaysia to China attended the event along with over 60 participants including diplomats from the embassies of ASEAN Member States (AMS) and university students from the AMS and China.
Shi Zhongjun emphasized that the year 2026 marks the 76th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and China, coinciding with the fifth anniversary of ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. In this context, the “ASEAN (Viet Nam) Movie Night” event is a dual celebration of special significance. And in future the “ASEAN Movie Night” event will continue to play a positive role in promoting cultural exchanges and enhancing youth friendship, with the aim to deepen the mutual understanding and to consolidate friendly relations between ASEAN and China.

Pham Thanh Binh stated that film is a “cultural ambassador”, capable of conveying the image of a nation and its people with great authenticity and depth, and it also serves as a vital link, fostering mutual understanding and strengthening the emotional bonds between peoples of different countries. He expressed the hope that through this event, the emotional exchanges and friendly relations between Viet Nam and other countries can be further enhanced.

The Vietnamese film “Once Upon a Love Story”, released in 2024, was screened at the event. This heartwarming masterpiece delves deeply into themes such as the healing power of love and the pains of growth by depicting the friendship and love entanglements among good friends. After the screening, the students present actively shared their insights about the vivid story that gave them a more intuitive understanding of Vietnamese society and culture. During the event, ambassadors and diplomats had cordial exchanges with students about the movie and jointly tasted Vietnamese cuisines.
Shi Zhongjun also gave interviews to media outlets including Vietnam TV, Nhan Dan Newspaper, the Voice of Vietnam, and Vietnam News Agency.
