Indonesia–Venezuela Strengthen Cooperation in Economy, Energy, and Protection of Indonesian Nationals

(AseanAll)  — Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono held a bilateral meeting with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil Pinto on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 26, 2025 . The meeting reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to strengthen the partnership that has been built for 66 years.

During the meeting, both Foreign Ministers agreed to enhance bilateral relations, including through the optimalization of existing mechanisms such as political consultations and joint commission meeting.

Sugiono underlined the importance to strengthen economic cooperation, particularly in food and energy security. “Indonesia and Venezuela have great potential to work together in realizing food and energy security. The presence of Indonesia’s state-owned oil and gas enterprises in Venezuela is a concrete contribution, and we look forward to the full support of the Venezuelan government to further strengthen this cooperation,” said Minister Sugiono.

Sugiono also emphasized the importance of protecting Indonesian nationals in Venezuela, which are one of the largest Indonesian communities in Latin America. “The protection of Indonesian nationals has always been a priority of Indonesia’s diplomacy. We appreciate the commitment of the Government of Venezuela to provide protection for Indonesian nationals in Venezuela,” stressed Minister Sugiono.

As part of efforts to deepen the Indonesia–Venezuela partnership, both Foreign Ministers also agreed on the importance of strengthening intensive communication and high-level visits.

Beyond bilateral issues, both Foreign Ministers also exchanged views on regional dynamics. Venezuela expressed its hope that Indonesia could play a role in encouraging dialogue and diplomacy to help ensure global and regional peace and stability.
