(AseanAll) — Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste Mr. Bendito dos Santos Freitas paid a working visit to Myanmar from 17 to 19 September 2025, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar.
During the visit, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar U Than Swe and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste Mr. Bendito dos Santos Freitas held discussion on bilateral matters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar in Nay Pyi Taw on 18 September 2025.
At the meeting, the two Foreign Ministers underlined the importance of upholding the fundamental principles of ASEAN and the ASEAN Charter, particularly non-interference in the internal affairs of member States. They also pledged to promote diplomatic relations between Myanmar and Timor-Leste.
Moreover, Timor-Leste officially proposed to Myanmar Government to open an Embassy in the capital city, Dili. Timor-Leste reaffirmed its commitment not to allow the activities of illegal organizations against the Myanmar Government, as well as opening office in Timor-Leste.
In consideration of the interests of the two countries and the peoples, the Foreign Ministers discussed the signing of bilateral agreements on visa exemption for the holders of diplomatic and official passports and visa waiver for Tourism purposes. These agreements are to be signed among the ASEAN member States.
