Phnom Penh, March 10 (AseanAll) — Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, highlighted six key priorities of Cambodia's foreign policy, at the recent closing ceremony of the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC)’s Annual Review Conference on March 5, 2025 .
The six key priorities include:
• Deepening existing bilateral ties and expanding cordial relations with all nations, by fostering mutual trust and understanding, win-win partnerships in all sectors under the political-security, economic and socio-cultural pillars, with emphasis on building a border of peace, friendship, and cooperation with immediate neighbours.
• Advancing multilateralism, by actively engaging in global governance, supporting United Nations peacekeeping operations, and reinforcing Cambodia's contributions to peace, stability, and sustainable development worldwide.
• Enhancing ASEAN's centrality, though consolidating ASEAN unity and central role in maintaining regional stability, supporting peaceful conflict resolution, contributing to ASEAN's common interest and prosperity, and the realisation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 to be adopted this year.
• Promoting Cambodia 's economic and cultural diplomacy to expand the country’s perspective in the global marketplace, increase trade relations, attract foreign investment, promote tourism, and leverage the country’s cultural heritage to bolster economic growth and national image.
• Strengthening public diplomacy efforts to combat misinformation, protect and promote Cambodia's good image and national interests on the world stage.
• Enhancing the strength of Cambodia's diplomacy through institutional reforms and improving operational efficiency and professionalism of Cambodia's foreign service.
Hun Manet also lauded the MFAIC’s performance throughout 2024, and commended its strong commitment to better perform through recalibration of Cambodia's diplomatic efforts and continual enhancement of the capabilities of the foreign service, while adapting to the increasing economic competition, evolving security challenges, and the rise of non-traditional threats within and beyond the region.
The Premier emphasised the importance of enhancing Cambodia's proactive foreign policy and strategic engagement to strengthen the country's resilience in protecting core national interests, including independence and sovereignty, territorial integrity, peace and unity, as well as socio-economic progress.
Moreover, Hun Manet reaffirmed Cambodia's adherence to an independent foreign policy of permanent neutrality and non-alignment, based on the principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, the Constitution of Cambodia and core national interests.
The review conference also included the launch of "The Taste of Angkor II", a new book on Cambodia's cuisine, following the first edition resounding success and a pledge to further showcasing rich culinary traditions and culture of Cambodia.
