Lao Prime Minister to pay official visit to Thailand

(AseanAll)  — On February 17, 2025, Thai Government Spokesperson Jirayu Houngsub disclosed that Mr. Sonexay Siphandone, Prime Minister of Lao PDR, is scheduled to pay an official visit to Thailand on 20 February 2025 upon an invitation of Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. 

This will be the first official visit of the Lao Prime Minister, following the Thai Prime Minister’s official visit to Lao PDR on October 8, 2024.
 
Schedule of the Lao Prime Minister’s official visit to Thailand includes attending an official welcoming ceremony, having a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister, and witnessing the signing of agreements between the two countries, as well as launching the commemorative logo to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and the Lao PDR. These will be followed by the joint press conference and a luncheon hosted by the Thai Prime Minister in honor of the Lao Prime Minister and spouse.
 
According to the Thai Government Spokesperson, the bilateral meeting will focus on cooperation reinforcement in various areas for mutual interest, e.g., economic cooperation, connectivity, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. A particular focus will be on addressing common challenges, including narcotics, online scams, human trafficking, PM 2.5 pollution and shared water resource management.
 
During his visit, Sonexay and spouse will have an audience with  the King and Queen of Thailand.
