(AseanAll) — Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen held talks with Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone on February 6, 2025 in Vientiane, as part of the former’s two-day official visit to Laos.
In the meeting, Sonexay Siphandone extended warm welcome to Hun Sen’s visit and thanked Cambodia for her support in contribution to the success of Laos in assuming her ASEAN chairmanship and in organising the 45th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), and the 10th Ayeyawady – Chao Phraya – Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Summit.
Sonexay Siphandone noticed and praised the social modernisation, political stability, economic growth, better living standard in Cambodia as well as her growing prestige on the international scene.
For his part, Hun Sen congratulated Laos on her successful hosting of the ASEAN Summits and Related Summits and highly valued the friendship and cooperation between the two neighbours.
The Cambodian Senate President recommended both nations to continue their good cooperation on security and national defence by adhering to the principle of not allowing hostile forces to use the territory of any country to cause danger, insecurity, and instability to another country.
Hun Sen also encouraged the two countries to further promote their relationship in the areas of economy, trade, investment, and tourism, stressing that even though it is slow, but strong.
Last year, the bilateral trade between Cambodia and Laos rose to US$256 million, a year-on-year increase by 0,46 percent.
