Thai Prime Minister meets with President of the Swiss Federation

(AseanAll)  — On January 22, 2025 (Davos local time), at the Congress Center, Davos, Swiss Federation, during her attendance at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2025 (WEF AM25), Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra had a bilateral discussion with President Karin Keller-Sutter of the Swiss Federation. 

The Prime Minister mentioned about “Thailand Reception”, an event hosted by concerned Thai public and private sectors during the WEF AM25 to present popular Thai dishes to WEF participants and media to their delight. Food is one of Thailand's soft powers that showcases the country’s local wisdoms, and has become globally popular thanks to the effort of farmers and Thai restaurant operators.

The Swiss President congratulated the success of “Thailand Reception” and the Thailand-EFTA (European Free Trade Association) FTA negotiation, which would play an important role in an increase of trade and investment between Thailand and Switzerland. Both the leaders also discussed cooperation on visa exemption and Switzerland’s support over Thailand's green transition.

The Prime Minister has witnessed the signing of Thailand-EFTA FTA, held on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at 0900hrs (Davos time) at the House of Switzerland. Parties under the agreement include Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Thailand. Thailand-EFTA FTA is expected to help increase trade between Thailand and these European Union countries through tariff cuts stipulated under the agreement.
