Malaysian PM New Year’s message: Strengthen integrity, sustainable development to face future challenges

Kuala lumpur, January 1 (AseanAll)  — As the ASEAN 2025 Chair, Malaysia will focus on efforts to ensure sustainable development and address issues faced by marginalized groups, in line with the theme of “Inclusion and Sustainability”.

According to Malaysian media Wilayah, on December 31,2024,  in his New Year’s Address for 2025, Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the country intends to uphold the principles of excellence and unity as well as eradicate corruption, thus strengthening its position as a sovereign, independent, and responsible country.

He stressed that this includes addressing key issues such as genocide, injustice, oppression, and occupation in Gaza to build a new chapter in the regional and global agenda.

“We must together uphold the principle of striving for excellence, meaning trying to find ways and methods to achieve excellence, first and foremost strengthening unity within our country.

“This is because, before we expand into the region and the international market, the country must be well organised, governance must be strengthened, leakage and corruption must be eradicated; only then will we gain respect as a sovereign, independent, and responsible country.

“This is a great honour for the country and an opportunity to build a new chapter in the regional and global agenda that continues to challenge several key issues such as massacres, injustice, oppression, occupation in Gaza, and several other challenging areas,” he said in a speech broadcast on Tuesday.

He explained that the MADANI Economic Framework, which was launched on 27 July 2023, brings a clear direction in reshaping Malaysia as the economic leader in the Asian region, leading the leadership and future generations to implement a humane economic system.

The government, he added, has successfully implemented several new shifts this year, aimed at benefiting the largest group of people, even though they may be unpopular decisions or measures.

“What is more urgent and essential is the MADANI Economic Framework, which provides guidance to the leadership and the next generation to implement an economic system based on humane principles with kindness and mercy so that justice can be upheld for every Malaysian citizen.

“I also understand that not all government decisions and policies are popular or quickly bear fruit.

“However, all of this is implemented with clear political determination, with sincere intentions, and with careful assessment to ensure that these policies benefit the largest number of people,” he said.
