(AseanAll) — The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2024 concluded on 26 October 2024 in Apia, Samoa, where leaders gathered under the theme “One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Common Wealth.”
King Charles III of England attended his first CHOGM as Head of the Commonwealth.
Leaders reaffirmed their commitment to tackling global economic, environmental, and security challenges, while exploring ways to enhance resilience, sustainable trade, and inclusive growth—emphasising the empowerment of youth and women.
Antigua and Barbuda was also announced as the incoming Chair-in-Office and Host Country for the next CHOGM.
The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 56 independent and equal sovereign states with a total population of 2.7 billion, more than 60% of whom are 29 years of age or younger.
The Commonwealth spans the globe and includes both developed economies and developing countries, including the ASEAN countries Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. Thirty-three members of the Commonwealth are small countries, many of them island states.
The Commonwealth Secretariat supports member states in building democratic and inclusive institutions, strengthening governance, and promoting justice and human rights.
