Medan, September 10 (AseanAll) — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) to advance regional integration, sustainable development, and shared prosperity.
“As the region’s main bank, ADB remains committed to supporting ASEAN and its subregional cooperation programs, including IMT-GT, in advancing connectivity, sustainability, resilience, and economic opportunity,” said Director General of ADB’s Southeast Asia Department Nianshan Zhang, at the 32nd IMT-GT Ministerial Meeting.
In the joint ministerial statement, the ministers from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand expressed appreciation for ADB’s continued commitment as IMT-GT’s regional development partner and recognized ADB’s important role in ASEAN as the region’s main bank. They acknowledged ADB’s enduring financial and technical support for green cities, tourism, economic corridors and zones, institutional strengthening, and project management.
ADB commended IMT-GT’s preparation of its new Implementation Blueprint 2027–2031, which focuses on economic resilience, integrated networks, and shared prosperity. ADB has supported preparation of the Blueprint and stands ready to assist with its implementation, including identification of projects and mobilization of financing.
As of August 2026, ADB support benefiting IMT-GT areas was valued at over $3.7 billion, comprising transport, energy, agriculture, education, health, water, urban services, finance, and trade initiatives. ADB support includes 23 sovereign loans and grants totaling almost $2.7 billion, eight private sector investments in energy and information and communication technology totaling about $805 million, and 40 technical assistance initiatives amounting to over $24 million.
ADB has supported IMT-GT since its inception in 1993 and has served as its official Regional Development Partner since 2006.
