U.S. President congratulates new Vietnamese Party chief

Hanoi, August 8 (AseanAll)  — U.S. President Joe Biden sent a congratulatory message to Vietnamese President To Lam on his election as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee, according to the former’s statement released by the White House on August 7,2024.

In his message, Biden highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between Viet Nam and the U.S., considering the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as the foundation of their bilateral relationship.

“I congratulate President To Lam on his selection as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam’s Central Committee," Biden said in the statement.

“Nearly one year ago, Viet Nam and the U.S. launched our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, marking a new era of strong cooperation between our nations.

“Vice President Harris and I look forward to working with General Secretary Lam to continue advancing this historic progress, which supports a strong, independent, prosperous, and resilient Viet Nam," he wrote in the statement.

Earlier, the 13th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam elected Vietnamese President Lam as General Secretary for the 2021-26 term at a meeting on August 3,2024.
