Phnom Penh, July 31 (AseanAll) — Cambodia and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China have discussed the continued promotion and expansion of their relations and cooperation in many potential areas, including trade and investment, finance and banking, technology and digital economy, tourism, education, and people-to-people connectivity.
The discussion took place between Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and visiting John KC Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, during their meeting here at the Peace Palace on July 31, 2024.
Both sides also agreed to examine the feasibility of establishing direct flight from Hong Kong to Siem Reap cultural province of Cambodia.
John KC Lee, who brought along representatives of many large Hong Kong companies, told Samdech Thipadei of his visit, the purpose of which is to strengthen and broaden the ties between Hong Kong and Cambodia, especially in the fields of business, investment and people-to-people connectivity.
The Hong Kong chief executive thanked the Royal Government of Cambodia for supporting Hong Kong investors and businessmen.
For his part, the Cambodian Premier welcomed the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between some agencies of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), which will further establish more investment and business promotion mechanisms and contribute to the strengthening of strong relations between Cambodia and China.
Hun Manet spoke highly of Hong Kong investment in Cambodia, and highlighted the policies and mechanisms of the Royal Government to create and increase a favorable environment and encourage investment in Cambodia.
During the meeting, Hun Manet and John KC Lee also witnessed the exchange of two cooperation MoUs between Hong Kong Investment Corporation Limited and the CDC, and between the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the CDC.
