Bangkok, September 29 (AseanAll) — On September 29, 2026, Thai Deputy Government Spokesperson Ploythalay Laksameesaengjan disclosed that the cabinet, in its meeting approved the draft Memorandum of Understanding on Transport Cooperation between Ministry of Transport of the Kingdom of Thailand and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea. Should there be an amendment in parts that are not substantial nor against national interest, Ministry of Transport may exercise its judgment without having to resubmit to the cabinet for consideration. Minister of Transport or a representative is authorized as signatory of the MOU. This is as proposed by Ministry of Transport.

The previous Memorandum of Cooperation on Transport between Thailand and South Korea was approved by the cabinet on February 18, 2020, and expired on February 20, 2025. It outlined the scope of land transport cooperation through various activities, i.e., developing joint plans and projects, exchanging information and experts, conducting feasibility studies, providing consultation and technical assistance, and engaging in research and technological development. South Korea, later, proposed the drafting of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to replace the original, under which the scope of cooperation will be expanded to cover broader areas of transport, i.e., land transport, logistics, railways, aviation and airports, environmentally friendly and sustainable transport, and transport of the future.
The draft MOU will serve as an important mechanism for an exchange of knowledge and technical expertise, and for the implementation of concrete cooperation projects that will generate mutual benefits in economic, technological, and sustainable development in the long run.
