(AseanAll)  — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed Indonesia’s independent, non-aligned foreign policy while advocating for equitable global trade at the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) on September 3,2026. Prabowo  urged the establishment of direct aviation and maritime routes to operationalize this vision, framing the Pacific Ocean as an economic bridge between Indonesia and Russia.

Following these remarks, Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledged Indonesia’s strategic global influence and demographic weight, stating, “Any policy anywhere in the world must rightfully take Indonesia into account.”

The bilateral dialogue explored cooperative opportunities across the agriculture, energy, mineral, defense, and maritime sectors. Concrete outcomes of these discussions include a joint study by PT Pupuk Indonesia for potential investment in a Vladivostok urea plant, alongside Russian offerings of advanced, 102-meter fishing vessels equipped with integrated processing technology.

To accelerate mutual investment, Prabowo positioned Danantara as a capital bridge, encouraging collaboration with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) to finance prospective projects. He further encouraged Russian enterprises to leverage Indonesia as a strategic gateway to ASEAN and the broader Indo-Pacific region.

Prabowo also set a target to double bilateral trade via the Indonesia–EAEU Free Trade Agreement. Slated to take effect in early 2027 following its December 2025 signing in St. Petersburg, the FTA will eliminate tariffs for over 90% of traded goods, covering 11,882 tariff lines.

"Let us ensure every agreement in Vladivostok yields tangible results. While others build walls, we build bridges of cooperation for the prosperity of our people," Prabowo stated.

Attending as the principal guest of honor at President Putin's invitation under the forum's theme, “The Far East: Development for the Benefit of the People,” Prabowo underscored a shared commitment to concrete, mutually beneficial economic collaboration. Amidst global uncertainty, this robust partnership is designed to drive bilateral growth and deliver tangible, grassroots impact to the citizens of both nations.
