Timor-Leste President Receives Farewell Visit From Norwegian Ambassador to Timor-Leste

(AseanAll)  — On July 6, 2026, Timor-Leste President, J. Ramos-Horta received a farewell courtesy call from the Ambassador of Norway to Timor-Leste, Rut Krüger Giverin, marking the conclusion of her five-year diplomatic tenure. 

During the cordial meeting, Ambassador Giverin reflected on her time in the country, praising the nation’s ongoing development and highlighting the resilience and abundant opportunities present in Timor-Leste.

A central focus of the dialogue was Timor-Leste’s regional integration. Ambassador Giverin commended President Ramos-Horta on the nation’s milestones regarding ASEAN membership. The two leaders discussed the current government’s priorities within the regional bloc, as well as the strategic preparations for Timor-Leste’s upcoming ASEAN presidency.

Furthermore, Ramos-Horta shared his vision for the Greater Sunrise project and the nation’s economic future. Giverin noted the strategic importance of this initiative, emphasizing Timor-Leste’s potential to become a significant player in the global energy market amidst the current global energy crisis. Concluding her visit, the outgoing Ambassador conveyed warm greetings from the people of Norway and wished the President and the nation continued success in both domestic and international endeavors.
