Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi Meets with Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono

New York,May 27 (AseanAll)  — On May 26, 2026 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono in New York while chairing the UN Security Council High-Level Meeting.

Wang Yi welcomed Sugiono’s special trip to New York for the high-level meeting. He stated that as representatives of emerging economies and major developing countries, China and Indonesia have the obligation and necessity to strengthen cooperation, jointly safeguard the authority and status of the United Nations, inject stability into a world where changes and turbulence are intertwined, and make greater contributions to addressing global challenges. China proposed the convocation of this meeting to support, revitalize and strengthen the United Nations with concrete actions.

Wang Yi noted that China-Indonesia cooperation in all fields is forging ahead across the board with fruitful outcomes and bright prospects. China stands ready to work with Indonesia to build a community with a shared future, maintain close high-level exchanges, enhance cooperation planning, deepen multilateral coordination, and drive greater progress in bilateral relations. The two sides should continue to advance joint maritime development, speak with one voice to send a clear signal of mutual trust, mutual support and mutual cooperation among all parties in the South China Sea, and jointly commit to safeguarding peace and stability in the South China Sea and achieving win-win cooperation.

Sugiono congratulated China on the successful convening of this Security Council high-level meeting, noting that it helps rally support for international rule of law and multilateralism, and contributes to building a more open, balanced and effective multilateral system. Indonesia highly values relations with China, stands ready to strengthen exchanges at all levels and deepen practical cooperation across all fields with China, and jointly implement the consensus on maritime development. Indonesia will provide a sound business environment for Chinese enterprises, jointly enhance cooperation in energy, mineral resources and other sectors, continuously elevate the level of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, and promote regional peace, stability and inclusive development.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues such as the situation in the Middle East.
