Thai Prime Minister meets with Chinese Foreign Minister

(AseanAll)  — On April 24, 2026, at Thai Government House,  Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, and Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs, paid a courtesy call on Thai Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul on occasion of his visit to Thailand as guest of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  

The Prime Minister thanked the Chinese Government and President Xi Jinping for their continuous support provided to Thailand at various international stages. He highlighted the recent state visit of His Majesties the King and Queen to People’s Republic of China, which reflects tight-knitted relations between the two countries, and expressed hope that China would continue to support Thailand’s development in all dimensions on the basis of “Brotherly Bond” with mutual trust and respect.

The Chinese Foreign Minister appreciated the courtesy call on the Prime Minister. He also expressed confidence on the Thai Government’s capability in advancing national and economic development, and that Thailand-China relations would be further strengthened. The Chinese Foreign Minister conveyed warm regards of President Xi Jinping and his family to His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen. He also emphasized that China has full confidence in Thailand’s stability and stands ready to be a trusted long-term partner.

Both parties also discussed issues of mutual interest:

1. Elevation of Thailand-China Relations 

Both sides agreed to elevate relations towards a deeper strategic partnership, with a commitment to develop a “Joint Action Plan” that aligns with the development strategies of the two countries in a bid to engender tangible outcomes in all dimensions.

2. Exchange of High-Level Visits 

China extended an invitation to the Prime Minister to attend the APEC Leaders’ Meeting, which China will host in November 2026, as well as to pay an official visit to China. Thailand also invited Premier Li Qiang to pay an official visit to Thailand, on which the Chinese side has accepted in principle, and scheduling arrangement is currently underway.

3. Thailand–Cambodia Relations 

With regard to the regional situation, the Chinese Foreign Minister noted that relations between Thailand and Cambodia are showing positive momentum, and expressed hope that bilateral ties will continue to develop constructively in the near future. Thailand reaffirmed the importance of fostering mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries.

4. Security and Anti-Transnational Crime 

Both sides underscored the importance of enhancing cooperation in the field of security, particularly in combating transnational crime and scammers, which have had widespread impacts on the public. This issue will be incorporated as a key priority within the framework of the aforementioned Joint Action Plan, with the aim of strengthening public safety and confidence.

5. Advancing Tangible Cooperation through Mechanisms and Joint Activities 

The two sides agreed to further advance cooperation towards the more concrete implementations, which is not only at the policy level but also through various levels of cooperation mechanisms, meetings, and joint activities for sustainable and tangible outcomes.

According to the Government Spokesperson, the meeting reflects close relations and high level of mutual trust between Thailand and China. It is not merely symbolic, but is directed towards advancing strategic and practical cooperation in a concrete and long-term manner.

After the meeting, the Prime Minister hosted a reception in honor of the Chinese Foreign Minister in a warm and cordial atmosphere. Durian and khao lam (bamboo sticky rice), which are among the Minister’s favorites, were also served.
