Vientiane, March 18 (AseanAll) — Sonexay Siphandone, Lao Prime Minister and his spouse paid a courtesy call on King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida of Thailand on March 17, as part of the royal State Visit to Laos from March 16–18,2026.

The meeting underscored the longstanding and close ties between Laos and Thailand, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation based on mutual trust and shared interests. Discussions highlighted continued collaboration across key sectors, including politics, security, trade, and infrastructure development, particularly efforts to enhance regional connectivity.
The engagement also reflected on the successful commemoration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2025. Milestones included the inauguration of the 5th Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge linking Bolikhamxay Province,Laos and Bueng Kan,Thailand, along with high-level exchanges such as the visit of Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to Laos in April last year.

Sonexay described the State Visit as a historic milestone, noting it marks the first visit by a Thai monarch to Laos since Bhumibol Adulyadej in 1994. He expressed his deep appreciation for the continued support of the Thai Royal Family, particularly through royal development projects that have contributed to improving livelihoods in Laos.
Thai King expressed his pleasure at visiting Laos and thanked the government and people for their warm hospitality. He also conveyed his best wishes for continued friendship and closer cooperation between the two nations.
On the same day,Xaysomphone Phomvihane, President of the National Assembly of the Lao PDR, and his spouse paid a courtesy call on Their Majesties Maha Vajiralongkorn and Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana.
