The Prime Minister stated that the Thailand-Cambodia situation is a bilateral issue and affirmed the Thai Government’s clear intent to solve the matter through peaceful means under the appropriate frameworks. Chinese Special Envoy for Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier met with the Cambodian side before having meeting with the Thai authorities. According to the Prime Minister, China maintained a neutral position and expressed desire for the conflict in this region to end. The country does not attempt to guide or pressure either side in any specific agreement but advocates its support over regional peace. The Prime Minister emphasized Thailand’s stance, that is, peace can only be achieved through fulfilling the conditions Thailand has earlier communicated.

The Prime Minister also reiterated that in such situation as this, the Thai people should prioritize unity and solidarity. Politics should be proceeded according to systemic mechanisms. He urged that everyone exercise caution in expressing opinions, especially before and after the general election.

With regard to the security situation, the Prime Minister commended the Royal Thai Armed Forces for their dedication and sacrifice in protecting the nation’s sovereignty, and disclosed that the military has established clear operational plans and objectives. Even with the operational costs, primary goals remain unchanged. He encouraged the public to offer moral support to the soldiers who fearlessly perform their duties with self-sacrifice. The Prime Minister has visited the border areas several times and witnessed firsthand the cooperation of local residents who were willing to evacuate to state-provided shelters for their own safety, allowing the authorities to carry out missions without any worry.

On the next step of border situation, the Thai Government commits to end disputes with the neighboring country and to ensure that the situation will not be prolonged. The military is prepared and has its own plan to return the situation to normalcy the soonest possible. As the Prime Minister’s top priority is to boost confidence and ensure safety of local people, provincial governors, district chiefs, police, military, and relevant executives have been ordered to give moral support, and to assure the people that the areas are protected with the highest level of security. The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance in boosting morale of the frontline personnel through caring of their families well so that they can perform their duties without worry.

According to the Thai Prime Minister, the Government has continued to provide relief to the affected. A proposal to allocate the central fund for emergency and contingency for this purpose will be submitted to the Election Commission for consideration.
