Chinese Ambassador to Thailand Visits Northeastern Thailand

(AseanAll)  — Chinese Ambassador to Thailand Zhang Jianwei visited Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, and Nong Khai provinces in northeastern Thailand from December 10th to 12th, 2025. 

Zhang Jianwei met with Governor Khajornkiat Rakphanichmani of Khon Kaen province, Governor Rachan Soonhua of Udon Thani province, and Governor Saransak Srikruanetr of Nong Khai province. 

Ambassador Zhang visited Confucius Institute of Khon Kaen University, held discussions with the Khon Kaen Industrial Association and the Khon Kaen Chamber of Commerce.

He visited the Thai-Lao border crossing, the First Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge, Asia Pacific Potash Co., Ltd., and the irrigation project funded by the Chinese Consulate General in Khon Kaen. 

He also visited local Chinese schools and community organizations and had friendly exchanges with overseas Chinese in northeastern Thailand. 

Consul General Liu Hongmei of the People's Republic of China in Khon Kaen and and Minister-Counselor Wu Jian of the Chinese Embassy in Thailand joined this visit.

Ambassador Zhang stated that the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Thailand continues to operate at a high level, and bilateral relations are at the best historical period. His Majesty the King Vajiralongkorn's made a historic state visit to China. Leaders of both countries reached important consensus on the development of China-Thailand relations. The Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China approved the "15th Five-Year Plan" proposal, demonstrating China's unwavering determination to promote high-quality development and expand high-level opening-up. China is willing to share the opportunities of Chinese modernization with international community, including Thailand.

The Ambassador emphasized that northeastern Thailand enjoys the advantage of rich natural resources, talented people and a vibrant culture. The three provinces of Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, and Nong Khai possess significant locational advantages and enormous economic development potential. China is willing to work with Thailand to seek greater strategic synergy, advance cooperation on the China-Thailand railway project, expand imports of high-quality Thai agricultural products, and broaden mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, tourism, energy, education, investment, and other fields. He hoped that each province would seize the opportunities, leverage its own strengths, deepen practical cooperation with China for the benefits of both countries and their people.

People from all walks of life in northeastern Thailand warmly welcomed Ambassador Zhang's visit and expressed their strong expectation for the continued deepening of Thai-Chinese friendship and practical cooperation in various fields. Local government officials and business leaders expressed their gratitude for China's increased purchases of Thai rice,  looked forward to strengthening exchanges and cooperation with China, and more Chinese companies investing and doing business in the region. Overseas Chinese in northeastern Thailand stated that they will continue to play their role as a bridge and link, making greater contributions to promoting the enduring friendship between China and Thailand.
