Bangkok, December 3 (AseanAll) — On December 2, 2025, at the Thai Government House, Government Spokesperson Siripong Angkasakulkiat disclosed that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul received donation of relief supplies for flood-affected victims in southern Thailand from the Government of Japan, through the Japanese Ambassador to Thailand, Mr. Otaka Masato, and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Participating in the event were Thai Deputy Prime Minister Borwornsak Uwanno, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Permanent Secretary to Ministry of Finance Lavaron Sangsnit, Director- General of the Treasury Department Akkaruth Sandhyananda, Secretary-General to the Prime Minister Traisuree Taisaranakul, Deputy Secretary-General to the Prime Minister for Administration Chanida Kasemsook, Director-General of the Public Debt Management Office Jindarat Viriyataveekul, and Mr. Shunsuke Sakudo, Chief Representative of the JICA Thailand Office.
Relief supplies donated by the Government of Japan include: 1) 150 large tents, 2) 3,000 sleeping mats, 3) 3,000 blankets, 4) 150 waterproof plastic sheets, 5) 500 plastic water tanks for clean water storage, and 6) 20 water purifiers, worth total 7,100,000 Baht. All items will be delivered to Ministry of Finance’s Vayupak Network Flood Relief Command Center for the distribution to flood-affected victims in Hat Yai area.
The Thai Prime Minister expressed appreciation to the Government of Japan, Japanese Embassy in Thailand, and JICA, on behalf of the Thai Government and people, for promptly providing relief supplies to flood-affected victims. This shows sincerity and long-standing friendship between the two countries.
All relief items will be transported to the affected areas as soon as possible to meet the needs of flood-affected victims in a timely manner. The Prime Minister added that the Thai Government committed to improve disaster preparedness system in all dimensions along with developing appropriate and sustainable supporting measures in a bid to ensure efficiency of disaster management system in response to risks that may arise at any time and to minimize impact against the people.
The Japanese Ambassador emphasized that the Japanese Government provided the assistance out of strong friendship and solidarity between the two nations, especially in times of difficulties. This is also to return the gratitude for warm assistance Thailand offered to Japan during its past hardships. The Ambassador hoped that these relief supplies would help alleviate the suffering of the victims and wished for their safety and swift recovery from the flood disaster. He also affirmed Japan’s commitment to stand by the people of Thailand.
JICA Chief Representative added that the two countries have always assisted each other during times of crisis, for example, Thailand’s assistance to Japan during the Kumamoto Earthquake and the Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami, and Japan’s support to Thailand during the 2004 Tsunami and the Great Flood of 2011. This proves that “a friend in need is a friend indeed”.
The Thai Prime Minister once again thanked the Japanese Ambassador and all relevant sectors. Japan’s kindness and goodwill will remain in the memory of the Thai people.
