Chinese Ambassador to Thailand Zhang Jianwei Visits Chiang Mai Province

From November 26 to 28, 2025, Chinese Ambassador to Thailand  Zhang Jianwei visited Chiang Mai Province and met with Governor Rattanaphon Naradisorn and held discussions with Chiang Mai University President Pongruk Sribanditmongkol and representatives of teachers and students from the university's Confucius Institute. 

Zhang Jianwei  also visited the Chiang Mai Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Chong Hua Xin Sheng Chinese School, and Hedaytul Islam (Ban Ho) Mosque, and met with local overseas Chinese and compatriots. Chinese Consul General Chen Haiping in Chiang Mai accompanied the activities.

Zhang Jianwei  provided an overview of the current developments in China-Thailand relations, stating that the state visit of King Vajiralongkorn of Thailand to China marks a milestone in bilateral relations. China and Thailand relations are currently at their best in history. The Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China adopted the recommendations for the 15th Five-Year Plan, focusing on promoting high-quality development and expanding high-level opening-up, which will provide broader prospects for China-Thailand cooperation. Ambassador Zhang expressed hope that Chiang Mai Province would seize the opportunity presented by the rapid development of bilateral relations to further expand cooperation with China in economy, trade, investment, agriculture, education, tourism, and local exchanges, bringing more benefits to the peoples of both countries.

The Ambassador elaborated on China's positions on questions related to Taiwan and Xinjiang, and refuted the erroneous remarks on Taiwan made by Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae. He expressed hope that Chiang Mai Province would adhere to the one-China principle and maintain the friendly foundation and cooperative atmosphere between China and Thailand at the local level. 

Zhang Jianwei highly commended the efforts of the Chinese community in Chiang Mai in opposing "Taiwan independence" and promoting national reunification. He elaborated on China's policies on ethnic and religious affairs, and encouraged everyone to resolutely oppose separation, support the reunification of the motherland. 

Zhang Jianwei encouraged the Chinese community in Chiang Mai to tell China's stories well, serve as a bridge and bond for friendly exchanges and cooperation between China and Thailand as well as to make contributions to building a great motherland and achieving the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

All sectors in Chiang Mai Province warmly welcomed Ambassador Zhang's visit and spoke highly of the positive momentum in China-Thailand relations and China's achievements in economic and social development. Governor Rattanaphon and others stated that Chiang Mai Province attaches great importance to developing relations with China, adheres to the one-China principle, and is willing to further expand practical cooperation with China in various fields. 

Local overseas Chinese and compatriots expressed their great pride in China's remarkable development achievements and pledged to continue to unequivocally oppose "Taiwan independence" and promote national reunification, making new and greater contributions for the friendship of China-Thailand.
