Dili, June 11 (AseanAll) — The President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, J. Ramos-Horta, on June 11, 2025 received the President of the National Parliament of Timor-Leste, Fernanda Lay, at the Presidential Palace for a working meeting focused on priority national issues.
During the meeting, Fernanda Lay presented the Head of State with an update on strategic themes, including Timor-Leste’s progress in the ASEAN accession process, and preparations for the solemn parliamentary session scheduled for September 15th, which the President intends to attend.
Ramos-Horta expressed appreciation for the information shared, highlighting the Parliament’s role in AIPA (ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly) meetings and joint efforts with the Government towards full regional integration. The Head of State emphasized the importance of effective coordination, particularly in the context of the upcoming ASEAN Summit, scheduled for October, reinforcing the need for alignment among Timorese institutions to ensure solid and cohesive representation.
The meeting reinforced the spirit of cooperation between the sovereign bodies, reflecting a joint commitment to the country’s strategic interests. Ramos-Horta reiterated that regular institutional dialogue is fundamental to ensure informed decisions and concerted action in the face of the challenges and opportunities Timor-Leste faces on the regional and international stage.
