Dili, June 7 (AseanAll) — On June 7, 2025,The President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, J. Ramos-Horta, praised the Ocean Parade 2025 and the Gastronomy Fair promoted by the Government, considering them as a relevant moment for civic education and environmental awareness. During the opening ceremony, while walking from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation to the Port of Dili, he highlighted how young people and communities are demonstrating creativity and appreciation for nature through these activities.
The Head of State warned about the serious consequences of marine pollution, specifically calling for an end to irresponsible garbage disposal, which is subsequently dragged by rain to the sea, causing the death of fish and the destruction of marine biodiversity. He reminded the public of the value of Timor-Leste’s marine resources such as high-quality fish and coral reefs, warning that these could disappear if they are not properly protected. The President also urged the protection of wildlife and forests.
Ramos-Horta appealed to schools to encourage students to participate in environmental conservation, namely through the creation of vegetable gardens and orchards in school premises. He emphasized that these actions not only contribute to students’ nutrition, but also help protect the environment and improve air quality.
The President congratulated the Government for carrying out this initiative and called for the continuity of public awareness efforts for environmental protection.
