Jakarta, May 20 (AseanAll) — Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono received a courtesy call from the Swiss Ambassador to Indonesia, Olivier Zehnder, at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 20, 2025.
In the meeting, both parties discussed steps to enhance cooperation in various fields where Switzerland excels, namely vocational education, research, and development.
The two countries also agreed to maximize economic, trade, and investment cooperation by utilizing the Indonesia-EFTA CEPA scheme, with Switzerland as Indonesia's largest EFTA partner.
The Indonesian Foreign Minister and the Swiss Ambassador expressed their commitment to strengthening collaboration to achieve Indonesia's food security. The Indonesia-Switzerland Agreement on the Promotion and Protection of Investments also serves as a beneficial legal framework to enhance Swiss investment cooperation in Indonesia.
The total trade value between Indonesia and Switzerland in 2024 reached approximately USD 2.3 billion, with Indonesia's main export commodities including jewelry, precious metals, and footwear. Meanwhile, Switzerland is known as one of the leading European investors in Indonesia, particularly in the pharmaceutical and food industries. Both countries continue to strive to expand economic opportunities through various cooperation mechanisms they possess.
