Indonesia and Estonia Affirm Commitment to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

Jakarta, April 24 (AseanAll)  — The governments of Indonesia and Estonia affirmed their commitment to continue strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in various strategic sectors, including trade, investment, digitalization, and cybersecurity.

The commitment was conveyed during a bilateral meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Sugiono, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Margus Tsahkna, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia in Jakarta on April 23, 2025.

In the meeting, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono welcomed the enhancement of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, which has reached 32 years, including through the exchange of official visits, university cooperation, and cultural and artistic exchanges. The Indonesian Foreign Minister also encouraged the enhancement of direct interactions between business actors (B-to-B) and the community (people-to-people contact).

The Indonesian Foreign Minister also expressed appreciation for the continuously increasing trend in bilateral trade. Both Foreign Ministers believe that the negotiations for the Indonesia–European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (Indonesia–EU CEPA) need to be concluded promptly.

In addition, Sugiono also encouraged increased Estonian investment in Indonesia.

Sugiono expressed hope that Estonia, as a member of the European Union, could play an active role in supporting the completion of CEPA.

"CEPA will send a strong signal that Indonesia and the European Union are ready to build a crisis-resistant, fair, and mutually beneficial economic partnership," said Sugiono.

Sugiono welcomed the initiative to establish an MOU in the field of digital development between the relevant ministries of both countries. Indonesia sees Estonia as a prospective partner in digital transformation, particularly in e-government.

The two Foreign Ministers also exchanged views on current geopolitical and geoeconomic issues. Indonesia and Estonia emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation at the bilateral, regional, and multilateral levels to promote peace, stability, and shared prosperity.
