Thailand – Singapore to push forward economic cooperation

Vientiane, October 10 (AseanAll)  — On October 9, 2024,at the National Convention Centre (NCC), in Vientiane, Lao PDR, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra had a pull-aside meeting with Lawrence Wong, Prime Minister of Singapore during the 44th and 45th ASEAN summits.  

 
The two leaders agreed to push forward economic cooperation as Singapore has topped the ranking of the countries with highest foreign direct investment (FDI) in Thailand (in terms of investment value) during the latter half of 2024. The Thai Government has placed great importance and would like Singapore’s support on the development of digital economy, AI, and digital transportation. 

The two leaders also discussed food security. Thailand would like Singapore to consider importing Thai agricultural and food products, such as organic eggs and pork. It is important to increase tourism cooperation between the two countries as well. 

Both parties also came to terms on expanding military exercise agreement, and tightening cooperation on cyber security and natural disasters.
 
The Thai Prime Minister affirmed Thailand’s readiness to welcome President of Singapore in his official visit to Thailand next year to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
