Indonesian Foreign Minister Conveys Indonesia’s Humanitarian Solidarity and Support for Peace in Myanmar

Nay Pyi Taw, June 9 (AseanAll)  — On 8 June 2026 , Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Sugiono, visited Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, and paid a courtesy call on the President of Myanmar, Min Aung Hlaing.

During the meeting, Sugiono conveyed a message from President Prabowo Subianto reaffirming Indonesia’s commitment to supporting an inclusive and sustainable peace in Myanmar.

Sugiono expressed Indonesia’s readiness to work with all stakeholders in Myanmar to promote dialogue and support efforts toward a peaceful conflict resolution. Indonesia also reiterated its belief that a sustainable peace process needs to be Myanmar-owned and Myanmar-led, while emphasizing the importance of ASEAN’s Five-Point Consensus as the guiding framework for addressing the situation in Myanmar.

The visit also reflected Indonesia’s longstanding solidarity with the people of Myanmar through the provision of humanitarian, health, and disaster-relief assistance, including in response to the 2025 Myanmar earthquake. Such support reflects Indonesia’s commitment to assisting all communities in Myanmar inclusively.

In addition to meeting the President of Myanmar,  Sugiono also held talks with Myanmar’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, U Tin Maung Swe. The two Ministers discussed issues of mutual concern at both bilateral and regional levels, as well as efforts to strengthen economic, education, and people-to-people cooperation between Indonesia and Myanmar.

For Indonesia, Myanmar is an integral member of the ASEAN family. Indonesia will therefore continue to work constructively with Myanmar and all ASEAN Member States to promote a peaceful, stable, and prosperous region.

The visit is also part of ASEAN’s continued engagement with Myanmar in support of peace and stability in the country. Prior to this visit, the Foreign Ministers of the Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia had also visited Myanmar.

Indonesia and Myanmar have enjoyed diplomatic relations since 1949. Six years later, both countries were among the initiators of the Bandung Asian-African Conference, which advanced the spirit of solidarity, independence, and cooperation among developing nations. This shared legacy continues to serve as a strong foundation for strengthening the relations between Indonesia and Myanmar in the years ahead.
