Timor-Leste President and Global Laureates Conclude Historic Mission with High-Level Meeting with Indonesian President

(AseanAll)  — On August 28, 2026, concluding his visionary diplomatic and scientific tour, the President of the Republic of Timor-Leste , J. Ramos-Horta, led his distinguished delegation of global Nobel and Turing Award laureates to the Merdeka Palace for a high-level meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

Following their ecological mission at the Tambling Wildlife Reserve and strategic dialogues at the Megawati Institute, Ramos-Horta utilized this vital diplomatic engagement to further integrate world-class scientific expertise with the robust bilateral relationship between Timor-Leste and Indonesia.

During the productive summit, both leaders reaffirmed their strong commitment to regional stability under the “Good Neighbor Policy,” exploring new avenues for deep collaboration in science, education, technology, and food security. Prabowo warmly welcomed the elite delegation, which included globally renowned figures in chemistry, economics, and peace and expressed a strong desire for these international scientists to collaborate directly with Indonesian researchers and academic institutions.

The discussions also highlighted shared national priorities aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing how high-level research can drive regional self-sufficiency and holistic human development.

Highlighting the exemplary and historic friendship between the two neighboring nations, Ramos-Horta extended an official invitation to President Prabowo to make a state visit to Timor-Leste, an invitation the Indonesian leader graciously accepted.
